the NBA of the 80s and 90s I would definitely say were much tougher, but today's rules have taken a lot of it out not to mention flopping lol

yeah, you're running up and down the court constantly but there are also those halfcourt sets that see 1 guy dribble and 4 guys watch ... and the fact a lot of guys just don't know how to play defense anymore and half ass it on that end

there are also those guys that stand on the perimeter and literally try to avoid contact as much as possible lol ... a lot basketball guards aren't exactly tough, with the extreme exceptions of guys like Dwyane Wade and Allen Iverson

I'd say that running through a screen is the equivalent of standing in trying to turn a double play, depending on the person setting the pick

but baseball does have a bit more of a physical toll than a lot of people give it credit for ... I'm not saying it's the most demanding sport but it's not exactly far off, either

any number of outfielders crashing into a wall to make a catch can screw you up ... Ken Griffey Jr., Torii Hunter, Ryan Freel, Eric Byrnes and Aaron Rowand immediately come to mind

and pitchers definitely don't get as much of a workload now compared to the past, but they're still throwing a ball in a motion that the arm isn't supposed to be going ... and you see way too many power pitchers throwing out their arms now

The one thing that has gotten much worse in baseball though is the beanball wars

We get it, you gave up a homer and you want to take back the inner half of the plate

But pitchers know how to miss and send a message and also keep it away from the head

what kills me these days is the complete role reversals as far as contact go in football. DB's used to be the pretty boys that never got dirty and now its the safeties that are the dirtiest, most frequently injured players in the game.


and thats even taking into consideration that most of them are freakish athletes ie adrian wilson and 66 inch vertical and bob sanders/adrian wilsons combo of speed and strength.
