It’s the end of the month, and wow has it ever been a busy summer!  First of all, as I wrote before, my family came to visit me from Canada, and we headed over to Paris together.  I had a great time there, because Paris is one of my favorite cities in the whole world.  It was a little oversaturated with tourists because of the season and I prefer it in May, but I’m not going to complain. 

After they left, one of my best friends came to visit.  We’ve been friends since we were 5, so it was so nice to see her…we are practically sisters.  I showed her some of the sites, and she was also here for my birthday, which was nice.  I had a big party at a cocktail lounge and a ton of my friends came.  It was the birthday party I’ve been trying to have for about 5 years but just kept not happening!

Now I am just kind of winding down…I’m feeling a bit burnt out after being so busy for over a month, but I’m starting to settle back into my daily life.

Yayyyy!  My family will be here to visit in 4 days!  I haven’t seen them since Christmas, which is a hair more than I normally see them (I don’t get out to Canada every year and my parents can only visit here once a year.)  It’ll be great to spend time with them, and they are bringing me tons of goodies!  More of my old stuff (including kitchen stuff that for some reason or another, I can’t find here), some clothes, DVDs and probably SMOKED SALMON!  Yay!

Hey guys, just wanted to give you a little update on my test situation….I did my big German test yesterday, and it’s FINALLY OVER!  I’m kind of on the fence with how it went.  Parts of it were more difficult than my practice tests, but everyone else was saying that too and they grade easier on harder tests so hopefully that makes a difference!  I had to wait 3 hours to do the spoken part because they put us in smaller groups to do it, so I went shopping and bought some new stuff hehe.

Anyway I find out in 6 weeks how I did!  Now I can relax!

Tomorrow is the big day….at 8 am I write the TestDaF…short for Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache.  It’s a big standardized test meant to test your fluency of German, and it’s accepted by all the universities and looks good from an employer standpoint (because if you pass with a grade of 4 you’re good enough in German to study, so working wouldn’t be a problem.)  The test is like 5 hours long with a 1 hour break in between.  I’m a bit nervous, but I feel prepared (well, as prepared as I can be at this point!) and I’m just crossing my fingers that the essays I have to read and write are more economics/social based rather than scientific (when I studied I always kind of bombed anything scientific because I just don’t read stuff like that so I don’t have all the vocab.)  Anyway I’ve worked on my test skills and I think it will be good!  And then afterward it’s allllll over so I’m going to go drink champagne!

Today and yesterday I stayed home from my internship because I was sick.  Today I was feeling a little bit better but my stomach was still turning.  I hate how in the adult world, you can’t just be sick.  When you’re a kid, you don’t really notice how horrible being sick is, because you can just relax.  I remember being 12 and getting to stay home and watch the Jenny Jones Show (NO JUDGEMENT!!) and it was awesome, like a holiday only a little suckier because I was sneezing/puking/whatever.  Now not only do I feel like crap but I know that the world does not wait for you just because you have the flu.  I’ll have twice as much to do at work, and so I took the day to catch up on my side projects and study German, between naps of course. 

But I’m feeling much better now, so tomorrow will be life as usual!

In other news, I finally saw Sweeney Todd today after waiting several months.  Films come out later in Germany and it wasn’t out here until mid-February and I hadn’t gotten around to it yet.  I finally got the chance earlier in the evening and it was AMAZING.  I’m a big fan of the musical (and all of Steven Sondheim’s work) after I saw it a few years back.  Great stuff.

I have to cut back on the junk food.  I’ve been eating out a lot lately, and usually eating out is when I treat myself to really indulgent food, but since it’s been more often maybe I should either eat at home more again, or stick to the salad.

I’ve had a pretty lazy weekend.  I didn’t go out friday night or last night.  I just treated myself to dinner at home and a movie.  I’m trying to work up the motivation today for going to the gym, but I hate going on Sunday.  It’s always so busy and you have to wait.  I much prefer weekday afternoons.  But I feel like I should go because I haven’t gone all week.

I had a pretty busy week though.  A friend of mine from the Netherlands came to visit and we spent 2 days walking around like crazy shopping.  It was lots of fun but my feet got really sore!  On thursday I spent half the day in line, first trying to get tickets for the film festival (which sold out after I had been waiting there forever!)  and then at the post office.  All wasn’t lost though.  I ended up getting free tickets to a different show at the festival, and I got my book order at the post office!

Yep, I totally set a fire in microwave.

I don’t have an oven, and sometimes I really craved some baked stuff.  My microwave has a ‘grill’ and a ‘convection’ function, so sometimes I cook stuff like pizza or salmon in there.  I was at the store the other day, and I saw these ready to make muffins, and I decided to try them out.  They come in this bakable individual latex package, so I put one in the ‘grill’ function the other day, and it didn’t quite get all baked.  Well today I thought I’d see if the ‘convection’ feature would work.  BIG mistake.  After about 7 minutes or so, it shut off, and I thought ‘huh…’ and went to go check it out.  The muffin was TOTALLY on fire!  I opened the door and all this smoke came out, and my smoke alarm went off (at least I know it works!)  I had to open all the windows, and my microwave wouldn’t work, which was pissy because it was kind of expensive and not even a year old.  I left it for a while though and it worked again.  I guess it just turns off for a while if something like that happens so it doesn’t overheat and cause a real fire. 

Anyway, that was my story of the evening!

Heyyyy everyone!  After my very LONG absense I am back in action, officially.  That means back to my regular schedual and all that jazz.  Woohoo!

I had a great Christmas with my family and friends in Canada.  I got to go skiing (super fun!), and I got to party it up with my girls there.  I miss them already, and am trying to convince them to come visit me here in Germany!  Santa was pretty good to me as well…I got a new digital camera, a bracelet from Tiffany’s, some moolah and some awesome pjs.  On Boxing Week (sale crazy in Canada) I was in Vancouver and I got some SWEET deals on some new shoes and clothes, so basically I have a new wardrobe hehe! 

I came back to Germany on the 29th, after a lonnnnnnnnngggggg flight (screaming baby, awful plane food.)  Just in time for New Years Eve, aka Silvester if you are German.  I went out with a friend of mine and we partied until 6 am and I had soooo much fun.  I got to watch lots of fireworks as well!  They do this thing in Germany where they melt these pieces of metal and drop it in water and the shape is supposed to tell your fortune for the coming year.  Well, mine TOTALLY looked like a penis hehe.  I guess it’s going to be a good year

Anyway I’m already starting on my New Years resolutions.  In case you didn’t catch them on the forums, they are:

1) do more stuff, especially cultural stuff like go to the ballet and film festival and all the other awesome things that happen here on a regular basis that I never do.

2) wake up earlier

3) Be more careful of how I spend my money.

OMG only 1 more day until I go away for the holidays to see my family!  I haven’t been back in 2 years, for those out of the loop.  It’s less than 24 hours actually.  My flight leaves at noon my time tomorrow.  It’s funny because I arrive at 4 pm pacific time, so despite all that flying time, I don’t lose very many hours (though on the way back I lose almost a whole day.)  I’m pretty much ready to go….mostly packed except toiletries and makeup, got my apartment mostly clean (I HATE leaving a messy house!), and I’m half done the dress I wanted to make to bring with me, though I am bringing 3 other dresses…I’m a dress girl.  I even got all the songs I wanted uploaded onto my iPod and I have a plane book (“Lipstick Jungle” by Candace Bushnell.)  Ooooo and I bought a smallish digital camera so I can take lots of pics of me and my girls when we are out on the town together. 

In case you’re wondering, I will be on pchats periodically while I’m away.  My parents have high speed internet access and even though I’ll be fairly busy there’s not too much to do in my hometown

Only 6 more days until I leave for the holidays!  Soooo friggin excited.  I have a ton to do before that but I don’t even care.  Today I bought a ton of nice German chocolates (some of the best in the world) to bring back for the family…hope they love them!

Until I go I’m just trying to get ready, cleaning the house (I hate coming home to stuff even sort of out of place) and finishing up my shopping.
